When tested against Meridian’s EIA, the CrAg LFA showed high diagnostic performance in 197 serum specimens. The Crag LFA agreed with 100% of the Meridian EIA positive test results, and 93% of the Meridian EIA negative test results.2,3

 

When tested against culture and India ink, the CrAg LFA showed high diagnostic performance in all specimen types.

From the table above, we can conclude that the CrAg LFA will correctly generate a positive result for 100% of patients with Cryptococcus in serum and CSF samples, and 98% in Plasma and Whole Blood samples.2,3

The CrAg LFA will correctly generate a negative result for 100% of patients without Cryptococcus in serum, CSF, and Plasma samples, and 94% in Whole Blood samples.2,3

The LFA is rapid (20 samples in ~17 min) and can be adapted to high-throughput
laboratories. Importanty, the LFA may also offer a low-complexity method for resourcelimited settings that need an accurate diagnostic assay for cryptococcal disease.

At my work institution I have had the opportunity to work with IMMY's products, specifically CrAg LFA, Aspergillus GM LFA, and serology for Histoplasma. All of them have been a very useful tool for a timely diagnosis. In the case of the CrAg LFA, it has been a valuable tool for early detection of Cryptococcosis in HIV patients, increasing survival. 

Fungal serology has been very useful for the detection of Histoplasma spp and Paracoccidioides spp, since we are a country endemic for these mycoses.

At the lab, we used to test for CrAg using a LFA from another provider and not even taking into account the reason of its request, there was no workflow. When I started to read about IMMY's clinical solutions and high quality assays, I realized they produced a CrAg assay based on LFA, which not only has a friendly format for detecting Cryptococcus spp. antigen is serum and CSF, but also allows to estimate the burden of the infection by a semi-quantitative method. After a huge effort I managed to change the provider of CrAg LFA, moving to IMMY's CrAg LFA. It was definitely a game changer for the lab. 

As a clinical microbiologist, I totally recommend using IMMY's products to get solutions for our patients in an era where high performance assays are critical.
