Aspergillus Detection Systems
Immunodiffusion & Complement Fixation for Antibody Detection

Of the over 900 species of Aspergillus found worldwide, only 8 (A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger, A. terreus, A. nidulans, A. glaucus, A. carneus, and A. parasiticus) have been associated with a significant number of human infections. Three forms of Aspergillosis are generally recognized; 1) allergic aspergillosis; 2) colonizing aspergillosis; 3) invasive aspergillosis.
Immunodiffusion and complement fixation reagents are available for serodiagnosis. An immunodiffusion screening antigen is available which contains A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. terreus, and A. niger. In addition, antigens and positive controls for each of these species are also available along with A. nidulans for testing separately. Complement fixation testing is performed only with A. fumigatus.
