Blastomyces Detection Reagents
Immunodiffusion & Complement Fixation for Antibody Detection
|
Blastomycosis, caused by Blastomyces dermatitidis, is diagnosed most frequently in North America; however, cases have been reported in Mexico, Central America, South America, Europe, Middle East, India and Africa. Immunodiffusion is the serological detection method of choice for screening suspected cases. The immunodiffusion test with 'A' antigen is very specific and has a sensitivity of 70-80% on culture confirmed cases. Complement fixation has a sensitivity of 50-60%.
