Antigen Detection (Cryptococcal Antigen Latex Detection System)

The LATEX-CRYPTOCOCCUS ANTIGEN TEST is based upon the principle that anti-cryptococcal antibody-coated latex particles will agglutinate with specimens containing cryptococcal capsular polysaccharide antigens. Previously, the detection of this antigen in serum was hampered by the presence of rheumatoid factor

Pretreatment of serum specimens with Pronase (REF DE0010) reduces nonspecific interference and enhances the detection of capsular polysaccharide antigens of C. neoformans due to rheumatoid factor and immune complexes.

Antibody Detection (LA-Coccidioides, LA-Histoplasma, LA-Sporothrix Antibody Systems)

The LA-COCCIDIOIDES, LA-HISTOPLASMA, AND LA-SPOROTHRIX ANTIBODY SYSTEMS are based upon the principle that Coccidioides, Histoplasma, or Sporothrix antigen-coated latex particles will agglutinate with specimens containing anti-Coccidioides, anti-Histoplasma, or anti-Sporothrix antibodies, respectively. The LA-tests detect agglutinating antibodies that are of sufficiently large size to bridge between antigen-coated latex particles. Immunoglobulins other than lgM (e.g. lgG, IgA, and lgD) are not as effective at bridging between the sensitized particles, and therefore positive reactions by LA are mostly associated with lgM antibodies.
